Ascension of the Balaïtous (3143m) via the Larribet refuge and the Grande Diagonale

Access

To reach the Balaïtous (3143m), head towards the Larribet refuge! You can start your adventure from the parking lot of Plan d’Aste. This starting point will allow you to enjoy a nice walk of 5.5 km with an elevation gain of 600 m, which takes about 2 hours of hiking. Be sure to warm up before starting; the mountain is no joke!

Are you an experienced hiker? The Grande Diagonale is for you! It is considered a technical route but does not require highly advanced mountaineering skills. Warning: if snow decides to join, the terrain can quickly become slippery and will require a bit more from you! Be prepared to use your hands at certain moments of the ascent. It’s a bit like taking a selfie while balancing on a rock, with a breathtaking view to boot!
