Access
To embark on the adventure of the Mées circuit and meet the famous Pénitents, a geological gem, head to the village of Mées, located in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence region. The starting point is easily accessible from the center of the village. Once you park your vehicle, prepare to be amazed! The region is easily accessible by car and is close to many other natural attractions.

This circuit extends over 600 meters and has a height gain of about 200 meters. Difficult, you see, this hike is not really, as it is classified as easy. Perfect for families, it can be complemented by photo breaks to capture the stunning landscapes. However, keep in mind that some sections may prove to be more tricky, especially for little adventurers. Comfortable shoes are recommended!
Essential Information
This hike is open year-round, except when snow comes into play. In terms of duration, plan for about 45 minutes for the ascent. Besides the breathtaking landscapes, you will have the opportunity to observe rock formations while discovering the local flora and fauna. Remember to bring water and snacks to refuel, as mountain air can whet the appetite, even at 600 meters altitude!
Itinerary
To start your expedition, follow the marked trail from the village. After a few minutes, leave the main road by a small path on the left, which will lead you to the start of the Pénitents trail. This trail is distinguished by its airy passages and breathtaking views of the surrounding valley. Once on the trail, you just need to follow the directional signs. As you continue on your way, you will pass through enigmatic places like the Mine Tunnel and enjoy the view of the limestone rocks shaped by nature.
After admiring these unique formations, return to the village by the same path. And there you go, you are now a worthy explorer of the Pénitents, armed with memories etched in your mind and probably a few photos to share with your friends!
